Who we are, and what this covers

The Colorado Hunting Guide (thecoloradohuntingguide.com) is an independent reference site about hunting in Colorado, operated from Colorado, United States ("we", "us", "our"). This policy covers the website and the server function behind its one form. It does not cover the third-party sites we link to (CPW, the state's license lookup, outfitters' own websites), which are governed by their own policies. The site is directed to a United States audience.

What we collect

One form, and you can read the whole site without touching it: the email address you enter in the alerts signup form, if you choose to submit it. We do not ask for your name, location, or anything else, and we don't collect anything at all if you simply read the site. The form also contains a hidden field that is invisible to human visitors and exists solely to catch spam bots; it collects nothing from real people.

One more thing rides along with the signup, and we would rather say it plainly than bury it: the signup records which page you subscribed from. When your browser submits the form it sends the address of the page the form was on (the standard Referer header), and we store that in your subscriber row in a field called source_page. It tells us which pages are earning signups. It is one page, recorded once, at the moment you subscribed; it is not a browsing history, and we keep no record of what else you read here.

How we use it

Your address is used only to send you the reminders you signed up for: a note before the Colorado draw deadline and a note when season dates change. We do not add you to any other list, we do not send advertising, and we do not sell, rent, or share your address with third parties. If we ever want to use it for something else, we will ask first.

How it's handled

When you submit the form, your address is stored in our own subscriber list, a private database hosted on Cloudflare, and sent to our email provider, Resend, which delivers the messages on our behalf. A notification also goes to our own inbox. We store your address, which site and form you signed up through, the page you signed up from (as above), and the dates you subscribed and unsubscribed. That is all of it. We don't build a profile, we don't track you across the web, and we don't store anything beyond what's needed to send these emails. Both Cloudflare and Resend act as service providers on our behalf; beyond them, we disclose personal information only if legally required to.

Until 25 July 2026 there was no database at all and this page said so; the "list" was simply our inbox. We changed it because we had promised you a reminder before the draw deadline and had no reliable way to keep that promise. Storing the address is what makes the promise keepable.

Two practical details worth stating plainly, because you may notice them:

• Who the email comes from. Our messages are sent from [email protected]. If that sending setup is ever unavailable, our system falls back to a verified address on myroofrisk.com, a domain the same operator uses for another site, because it was the domain first verified with our email provider. Either way the display name says The Colorado Hunting Guide, and either way it is us: not a leak, and not a sale of your address to anyone.
• How to get off the list. Every email we send carries a one-click unsubscribe link, which takes effect immediately. You can also reply "unsubscribe" to any message; replies are routed to [email protected], which is our own address, so you can email that directly and ask to be removed instead.

How long we keep it

We keep your subscriber record until you ask us to delete it. When you unsubscribe, we keep the row and mark it unsubscribed rather than deleting it; that mark is what guarantees a stale copy of the list can never mail you again by accident. When you ask for deletion, we remove the row entirely: email [email protected] and it is done. Signup notification emails stay in our inbox until a deletion request covers them, and Resend retains delivery logs under its own retention schedule.

Your rights: access, correction, deletion

Ask us what we hold about you and we will tell you (realistically: one email address, one source page, and two dates). Ask us to correct it or delete it and we will. Email [email protected] from the address you subscribed with; that is how we verify the request is yours, and if you no longer control that address, tell us and we will figure out a reasonable alternative. We answer within 45 days, we honor these requests for everyone who asks, whatever state or country you live in, we will not charge you, and exercising them changes nothing about how the site works for you.

Where we stand under the Colorado Privacy Act. The Act applies to businesses above defined thresholds: broadly, those controlling or processing the personal data of at least 100,000 Colorado consumers in a year, or at least 25,000 while deriving revenue from selling personal data. A site holding a list of voluntarily-typed email addresses, and selling none of it, is nowhere near either threshold, so the Act does not currently impose obligations on us. We honor access, correction and deletion requests anyway. If we ever decline a request, we will say so and say why, and you can appeal by replying: a second look, answered within 45 days. If you are still unsatisfied, you can contact the Colorado Attorney General.

Children

This site is not directed to children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13. If you believe a child has submitted an address, email [email protected] and we will delete it.

No cookies, analytics, or tracking

This site sets no cookies, runs no analytics or advertising scripts, and does not track your browsing. Pages are static files, and the site's security policy (the Content-Security-Policy header we ship with every page) permits no third-party scripts at all, so an analytics script could not load here even by accident. As with any website, our hosting provider (Cloudflare) may process basic server request logs for security and reliability; we don't use those for tracking or marketing.

The postal address on our email

United States law governing commercial email (CAN-SPAM) requires every message to carry a working unsubscribe mechanism and a valid physical postal address for the sender. Both are in the footer of every email we send: the one-click unsubscribe link, and our postal address, The Colorado Hunting Guide, PO Box 203, Larkspur, CO 80118. Write to us there if you prefer paper; email is faster.

Links to other sites

We link out to CPW, the state's license lookup, and outfitters' own websites. Once you follow a link, that site's privacy practices apply, not ours.

Changes

If we ever change what we collect or how we use it, we'll update this page in the same release as the change and update the date at the top. What changed on 18 August 2026: retention, the rights process, the Colorado Privacy Act paragraph, the children statement, the plain-words disclosure of the signup source page, and the postal address note were all added; no data practice changed.
